Looking Forward to a Brighter 2009

With gas prices rising day after day and homes being lost through financial strife; with the United States having gone through a fall 2008 general election that is sure to bring up accusations of mistakes and miscalculations by those who have intentionally or unintentionally caused harm to this country’s well-being and standing in the world; with precious few rays of hope for a better future, 2009 will be a time that is ripe like no other for people in the United States and around the world to search for true, authentic spirituality.

True spirituality gives you an anchor in the storms, a path to contentment and happiness that is independent of how much money you have in the bank. Spiritual happiness stays with you when things are going your way, and also when everything is crashing down in waves of sadness, disappointment, fear, and even misery. Authentic spirituality gives you the inner strength to go forward and do what is best for yourself, your loved ones, and the whole world. Spirituality will be a most important topic in 2009 and beyond, as the United States and the world affected by it enters a new road of cleaning up messes and looking forward to a brighter future.

In 2007, Oprah helped to make “The Secret” a number one blockbuster book. People learned that they had the power to affect their world in ways that went beyond the usual struggles and strifes of life. The public masses considered – some for the first time – their personal responsibility in creating the world, not only through actions but also through their thoughts and the laws of attraction. But the focus of this “spiritual blockbuster” was on how to fulfill material desires for more things – such as a car, a house, and a watch. In 2009, even the most dedicated followers of spiritual materialism will have an opportunity to discover that creation is not a parlor game to be used for getting more stuff and avoiding challenges. In 2009, many will come to realize that even more important than using metaphysical principles to get more stuff, is the opportunity to embrace authentic spiritual principles and settle into greater meaning and deeper happiness -- seeing beyond the temporary parameters of individual personal expressions to realize the spirit that is having a human experience in and as each one of us.

Authentic spirituality will be especially important in 2009, because so many people will have gone through struggles and hard times, financially and otherwise. When the storms of life come crashing down, people finally seek refuge in the shelter of authentic spirituality. Authentic spirituality is the key to building a better future. More people will seek a universal and personal spirituality lifts them from their usual day-to-day grind into the amazing gift of personal participation in the great and mysterious dance of life. Being eternal, spirituality is an important topic in any and every time, but in 2009, it will be perhaps the most important topic of all.
